City Council · Meeting of March 2, 2026

CHELSEA — The Chelsea City Council voted unanimously to back a bid for a Connecticut Sun WNBA practice facility. Councilor Leo Robinson said the city had already scouted sites near the FBI's Boston regional office and Market Basket, and the council signed a letter to team owner Stephen Pagliuca. Councilor Brown called the project a source of jobs, saying "visiting teams coming in" would need "a place to go." Separately, the council sent a $14,590,970 capital improvement loan order to a March 23 public hearing and referred nearly $2.8 million in free cash transfers, covering a Boys and Girls Club teen center, library air conditioning and a police women's locker room expansion, to Ways and Means.

Ways and Means Chair Norieliz DeJesus touted a new rule requiring nonprofits getting at least $25,000 in city funds to report measurable outcomes.
