City Council · Meeting of March 9, 2026
Chelsea's City Council sent an accessory dwelling unit zoning plan to an April 6 public hearing and referred a renamed "West Chelsea" overlay district back to the Planning Board after residents objected. Council President Roberto Jimenez-Rivera presided over the meeting, where the city manager called the district's branding "a miscalculation on our part" and offered to survey residents on a new name. Councilors unanimously adopted an order from Councilor Lisa Santagate directing police, public works and the city solicitor to address loitering and littering at the Civil War Memorial.
Roll-call votes of 8-0, with three members absent, approved a $10,000 donation from the Good Sports Foundation and $32,828.48 to settle overdue vendor bills. The city manager also previewed a 4.8 percent fiscal 2027 budget increase, citing a $1,053,545 jump in health insurance costs.
